MONUMENTA is a non-profit organization for the protection of natural and architectural heritage of Greece and Cyprus. It was established in 2006 to contribute to the protection and efficient management of the natural and architectural wealth of Greece and Cyprus.

Its activities include the publication of the electronic magazine MOnuMENTA (www.monumenta.org), programmes for informing the public and students, interventions for the rescue of monuments in danger, organisation of events, publications etc. The programme “Local Communities and Monuments” (http://topikeskoinoniesmnimeia.wordpress.com/), applied in various parts of Greece, aims so that the citizens themselves act for the protection of the natural and structured environment of their place, and also researches the relation between local communities around the world and their cultural and natural heritage.

An essential requirement for the protection of the architectural heritage of Athens and of all cities is the compilation of a complete and systematic record. MONUMENTA, acknowledging the importance of inventorying, began in 2013 the three-year project "Recording and Promotion of the 19th and 20th century’s buildings in Athens" (www.docathens.org) with the exclusive donation of the STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION. An equivalent program commenced in November of 2014 in Thessaloniki.

The main objectives of these Programs are to locate and record all 19th & 20th buildings, in order to inventory, study, protect and promote them. Moreover, the Programs aim to integrate architecture in the daily life of residents and visitors of the city, with various activities and events (training seminars, workshops, walking and cycling tours, website, brochures, etc.) sharing information about the built urban heritage.

The program is coordinated and implemented by a team of archaeologists and architects specialised in the management and protection of cultural heritage, in collaboration with a large team of volunteers. Our team works with the relevant management bodies for the protection of cultural heritage in Greece and other professionals and volunteer groups that possess (archival) recordings
