W4 : Thomas KauertzAnja Markwart HAWK (Germany) Thomas Kauertz is an Architect , assistant lecturer at the HAWK (University of Applied Sciences and Arts) in Hildesheim, Germany, since 2000.  Tom encourages students to think outside the paper and attempt unique and unusual designs.  Together with  his partner Anja Markwart are a living example of how the teamwork between Architects and Civil Engineers should be part of any working environment — creative, with mutual respect and trust.  There is no other way.  Architects and Civil Engineers need each other.

 

Dr. Elias Messinas  ECOAMA & ECOWEEK (Israel/Greece) architect and environmental consultant, educator and social entrepreneur, member of the American Institute of Architects, graduate of Yale School of Architecture, Environmental Design Dept. of Bezalel Academy, and holds a doctorate from the National Technical University of Athens. He attended the M.Sc. program on Environment and Development at NTUA. Elias teaches sustainable design and is the author of numerous articles, two books, and the editor of several catalogues and the first upcoming ECOWEEK publication ECOWEEK The Book#1: 50 Voices for Sustainability. Elias is the founding chairman and coordinator of ECOWEEK. more

 

Ishai Hanoon LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (Israel) Graduate of the School of Landscape Architecture in Petah Tikva, and with 30 years of experience in projects of different scales - urban, public, parks, and private residences, Ishai is an expert in the planning and development of sustainable and green design projects. He addresses in his work the integration and application of ecological aspects, for example in soil conservation and slopes, surface water treatment, regeneration of groundwater, and integration of local wild vegetation.

 

 

W4 theme : The Sun Garden at the German Colony, Jerusalem map The workshop will be addressing a real site and a real project, which integrates different stakeholders - local comnunity, local schools, local community center - and processes of co-design with the community, aiming to set sustainable design principles for the development and implementation of the project later on. More details to be posted shortly.

W5 : Ilan Goldstein YYY (Israel) Urban activist and co-partner in the Walking Man project which includes guerilla statues, graffiti, subvertizing, culture-jamming and street events. Copywriter and creative director in ad agencies. Head scriptwriter and strategic team member in political campaigns in Israel and Europe. Co-partner in the YYY branding company. Consultant to companies in the field of ethical code and brand vision. Activist in urban tree conservation, creator of the program: "Adopt a tee" to create a bond between children in the city and the trees in their environment. Among the former members of the Green Party in Israel. 

 

Roni Levit (Israel) Visual Communications Artist, born in Jerusalem. After graduating with honors from Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in 2005, she established “Studio Roni Levit” in 2006 Tel Aviv. The studio specializes in information design, examining the limits of objective and subjective facts while also attempting to measure concepts that lie beyond quantification. The studio produces pioneering infographic work for Israel’s major newspapers, numerous NGO's, selected private companies, and cultural publications. Since 2008 Roni Levit is a lecturer at the Bezalel Academy of Art, implementing and teaching Information Design courses. more

W6 : Braha Kunda HOLON INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (Israel) Architecture and Environmental Design Senior Lecturer and former Head of Interior Design Department at the Design Faculty HIT - Israel. She received her B. Design from Bezalel Academy and M. Arch from Rice University, Houston USA. Braha participated also in the Heschel Organization Environmental Leadership program, and is involved in the formation and activity of Mabadat Pais Design Terminal.Braha has professional and academic experience in total architectural and environmental design of housing, commercial and public projects in a wide range of scales. Major interest in contextual design related to social and cultural aspects.Braha supports ECOWEEK activity in Israel.

 

Yair Engel CRADLE-TO-CRADLE (Israel) is a designer, expert and consultant in sustainable innovation, Cradle to Cradle and Circular Economy. He is the founder and CEO of Kayama - the Center for Sustainable Design in Israel which promotes Design for Sustainability (D4S) amongst industrials, government offices and academic institutions. He is the representative of EPEA (Cradle to Cradle) in Israel. Industrial designer by profession (Bezalel Academy), Yair is a lecturer for D4S, Cradle to Cradle and Circular Economy at Shenkar and Kibbutzim College. Yair is a committee member of the Green Label Council of the Israel Standards Institute. Yair is a fellow of the Heschel Center for Sustainability, a certified Cradle to Cradle design consultant and a certified trainer for EU/UN SwitchMed Green Entrepreneurship.

 

W6 theme : Re-thinking the reuse of the Bat Yam City Hall map  The workshop will be addressing a real site and a real project, to be developed in close collaboration with the local Municipality, and the Center for Urban Sustainability in Bat Yam, integrating different stakeholders in the design process. The city of Bat Yam is interested in this project that will restore and preserve the Bat Yam city hall building, and establish within the building a center dedicated to the heritage and archive of Israeli architecture. The center is intended to serve as a museum, archive and community center, and as a center for the study of the restoration and salvation of archival materials in this field. The Bat Yam city hall was designed by architects Alfred Neumann, Zvi Hecker and Eldar Sharon in 1960-1963, and is a striking and unique example of a specific morphological-experimental style in the history of Israeli architecture. The proposal for the reuse of the city hall is an actual project and the workshop ideas may serve as the basis for future development and implementation of the project.

ONE PLANET LIVING PRINCIPLES

Dr. Orli Ronen (Israel) Head of the Urban Innovation and Sustainability Lab, at the Porter School for Environmental and Social Studies, Tel Aviv University, a cooperation between the Porter School and Tel Aviv Municipality, enabling graduate students to work directly with policy actors in local authorities, helping them use environmental data to devise new sustainability programs and policies for their local area. Previously, Orli headed the Heschel Center for Sustainability, which she founded, a joint project between the Porter School, the Ministry of the Environment and ICLEI. In 2015 Orli drafted the Tel Aviv Yafo Declaration on Civic Engagement and Smart Cities, part of the Habitat III New Urban Agenda, and Israel's National Report to Habitat III. Orli holds a PhD in Urban Planning from Tel Aviv University and a Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Business Administration. Orli is the 2009 recipient of the Green Globe for Local Sustainability.
