In 2019 ECOWEEK took place on September 1-6, organized by Elias and in collaboration with the Holon Institute of Technology Design Faculty, hosting speakers from Romania, Germany, and Israel. The workshops included design and design-build projects at the Neot Shoshanim Community Center in Holon, Israel. The event also included hosting an exhibition on modernist architecture in Bucharest, in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv.
In 2019 ECOWEEK returned to Aegina, Greece and provided the platform for the campaign by ECOWEEK co-founders Dr. Elias Messinas and Yvette Nahmia Messinas to preserve the mosaic of Aegina, belonging to an ancient synagogue of the 4th century CE. The campaign included an exhibition curated by Elias on the history and architecture of the mosaic at the Archaeological Museum of Aegina in cooperation with the Eforate of Antiquities of Piraeus and Islands of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, and under the auspices of the Municipality of Aegina. The campaign was completed early 2020, by successfully securing funding for the project.
The ECOWEEK events in Greece and Israel, which were open and free admission to the general public, were made possible thanks to the support, enthusiasm and hard work of numerous volunteers, individuals, professionals and businesses, who enthusiastically supported, led activities, and contributed in making the events possible and successful. The ECOWEEK event in Israel made a significant impact in raising environmental and sustainability awareness in each location.
