In 2017 ECOWEEK expanded its outreach to new countries, thanks to the initiative of young professionals who thanks to their enthusiasm, skills and leadership, activated local partners and organized successful events in their cities. They were successful thanks to collaborations with professionals and students, and the support of institutions, universities, municipalities and local businesses. The same year ECOWEEK also developed its collaboration with the 92Y in the ‘7 Days of Genius’ project, organizing events that promote innovation and entrepreneurship for society and the environment. The following events took place:

On March 7-11 ECOWEEK held GENIUS events in Athens and Thessaloniki in Greece, Jerusalem and Holon in Israel, in Bucharest, Romania, Mumbai, India, Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina, London, UK, Bucharest, Romania, and Prishtina, Kosovo, organized locally by teams of young professionals and entrepreneurs.

On May 7-13, initiated and organized by the team of Avans University of Applied Sciences and ECOWEEK Associate Despoina Kouinoglou, it took place in Tilburg, the Netherlands. With keynote speaker ‘cradle-to-cradle’ chemist Michael Braungart, and speakers from around the world, the event held large-scale hands-on interventions, using bio-based materials in a variety of spatial applications.

On September 10-15, organized by Elias Messinas and in collaboration with the Holon Institute of Technology Design Faculty, ECOWEEK was held in Israel, hosting speakers from Norway, Austria, Belgium, and Israel. The workshops included design and design-build projects in Jerusalem, Givatayim and Tel Aviv, a special installation for the ‘Parking-Day’ in Herzliya, and placemaking in Jaffa-Tel Aviv.

The ECOWEEK events in Greece, Israel, Romania, India, Bosnia Herzegovina, UK, Romania,  the Netherlands, and Kosovo, which were open and free admission to the general public, were made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of numerous volunteers, professionals and businesses, who enthusiastically led activities, supported and assisted in making the events possible and successful. ECOWEEK events in Greece, Israel, Romania, India, Bosnia Herzegovina, UK, Romania, the Netherlands, and Kosovo made a significant impact in raising environmental awareness in each location.
