2015_______greece & turkey & kosovo

                                   & australia & china

In 2015 ECOWEEK expanded its outreach to new countries, thanks to the initiative of young professionals who thanks to their enthusiasm, skills and leadership, activated local partners and organized successful events in their cities. They were successful thanks to collaborations with professionals and students, and the support of institutions, universities, municipalities and local businesses. The following events took place:

 

On March 19-25, initiated and organized by architecture students Doga Gizem Memis and Melih Can Alan, it was hosted by Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Turkey. Keynote speaker was Swiss architect Anna Heringer and speakers from USA, Spain, Liechtenstein, Italy, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

 

On May 29-June 6 ECOWEEK was invited to join the Eco-Week festival in Cairns, Australia, an environmental festival open to the public.

 

On August 11-September 10 ECOWEEK was invited to join the design competition in China, in collaboration with Jelena Lucic at XHY Intelligence company.

 

On September 27-October 4, initiated and organized by former ECOWEEK Associate Argjira Krasniqi and hosted at the University of Prishtina ‘Hasan Pristina’ in Prishtina, Kosovo, with speakers from France, Kosovo, Albania, Slovenia and Greece. The workshops included hands-on interventions in the university campus, including creating a mural on the perimeter wall.

 

On November 1-7, initiated and organized by ECOWEEK Associate Despoina Kouinoglou and a team of volunteers, ECOWEEK took place in Thessaloniki, Greece. Hosted at AKTO School of Design, it hosted speakers from Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Spain and Greece, and a demonstration of the first 3-d printed violin. The workshops included among others with Democritus Research Institute on the development of an architectural product based on nanotechnology. The innovative roof tile created by the group, was included by Democritus in a new program for development towards production.

 

The events in Greece, Turkey and Kosovo included one-week sustainable design workshops, led by local and international architects, designers and landscape architects.

 

The ECOWEEK events in Greece, Turkey, Kosovo, and participation in the Eco-Week in Australia, which were open and free admission to the general public, were made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of numerous volunteers, professionals and businesses, who enthusiastically led activities, supported and assisted in making the events possible and successful. ECOWEEK events in Greece, Turkey, Kosovo, and Australia, made a significant impact in raising environmental awareness in each location.
