In 2013 ECOWEEK expanded its outreach to new countries, thanks to the initiative of young professionals who thanks to their enthusiasm, skills and leadership, activated local partners and organized successful events in their cities. They were successful thanks to collaborations with professionals and students, and the support of institutions, universities, municipalities and local businesses. Four significant events took place.
On March 3-8 in Holon in Israel with keynote speaker Marta Pozo (MVRDV, Netherlands and China), and the participation of the Israeli Decathlon China team. The event also included a very unique panel presentation by the Count Philippe Piccapietra, Grand Counsellor and Delegate for the Holy Land, Order of Saint Lazarus in Jerusalem.
On May 13-19 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with keynote speaker Canadian architect Daniel Pearl, Ayfer Bakal, former Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs of Copenhagen, and guest at the ECOWEEK workshops Connie Hedegaard, former EU Commissioner for Climate Action.
On October 21-27 initiated and organized by former ECOWEEK associate Magdalena Malska in Krakow, Poland with keynote speaker award-winning Canadian architect Chris Doray, who also led a conceptual provocative workshop for the design of the first ‘green’ skyscraper for the city of Krakow.
And, on November 18-22 in Istanbul, Turkey organized and hosted by Mimar Sinan University, with speakers from Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece and Turkey.
All events included one-week sustainable design workshops, led by local and international architects, designers and landscape architects.
The ECOWEEK events in Israel, Denmark, Poland and Turkey, which were open and free admission to the general public, were made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of numerous volunteers, professionals and businesses, who enthusiastically led activities, supported and assisted in making the events possible and successful. ECOWEEK events in Israel, Denmark, Poland and Turkey, made a significant impact in raising environmental awareness in each location.
