2011____________greece & italy

In 2011 ECOWEEK held three significant events. On March 28 - April 3, in Thessaloniki, Greece  organized by Elias and former ECOWEEK Associates Thomas Pelioglou and Maria Marsela Duni, with keynote speaker award-winning renown architect Diebedo Francis Kere. On September 12-18 in Milano, Italy initiated and organized by Elias and a team of students and professors from the Politecnico di Milano, with keynote speaker award-winning architect the late Francoise-Helene Jourda. On December 12-18 in Athens, Greece, organized by Elias and former ECOWEEK Associates Thomas Pelioglou and Maria Marsela Duni, with keynote speaker renown Prof. David Orr of Oberlin College (USA).

The ECOWEEK 2011 workshops in Greece and Italy were assigned with the task to design diverse assignments, of various scales, in different locations throughout Athens, Thessaloniki and Milano. For example, in Milano, one group worked in the urban park Boscoincitta, where the students also toured the park and the community gardens.

The ECOWEEK events in Greece and Italy, which were open and free admission to the general public, were made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of numerous volunteers, professionals and businesses, who enthusiastically led activities, supported and assisted in making the events possible and successful. ECOWEEK events in Greece, and in Italy, made a significant impact in raising environmental awareness in each location.
